OB-GYN Op. Dr. Korkut Arslan
Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which is common today and typically transmitted through sexual contact, can remain hidden in the body without showing symptoms or lesions for a long time. This can prevent early detection, and the virus may negatively affect health and even lead to life-threatening cancers.
To treat this virus, it is essential to determine both its presence and type. The test designed for this purpose detects whether the virus exists in the body and, if so, identifies its specific type(s). This is called the HPV test. It may also be referred to as an HPV screening test, HPV DNA test, or HPV DNA PCR test.
Since HPV has over 200 known types and some of these are linked to various cancers, identifying the type via testing is critical. Once determined, treatment should begin promptly under the supervision of a specialist.

Not all HPV screening kits available on the market are equally reliable. This is because the number of HPV types each kit tests for varies. Some detect only types 16 and 18, others 6, 11, 16, and 18. Some test for 9 or 14 types.
Screening tests only detect the types they are designed to target. If a patient carries a type not included in the panel, the test will miss it, leading to unreliable results. A reliable test should cover at least 14 high-risk types. Ideally, it should test for 20–21 high and low-risk types. Identifying each genotype individually and quantifying their presence will yield the most accurate result.
The HPV genotyping test used in our clinic detects 21 high- and low-risk types and quantifies each one. This provides the most accurate basis for diagnosis and treatment.
In our clinic, every patient first receives a free preliminary evaluation by our doctor. Then, a sample or swab is collected and sent to a partnered laboratory that screens for over 200 HPV types.
A positive test result means that a high-risk HPV type is present in your body. However, this does not mean you have cancer. If the result is positive, treatment should begin without delay, generally following these steps:
In Turkey, the HPV test is not always provided free of charge in public hospitals. In some cases, Family Health Centers or units like KETEM may offer free screenings. In our clinic, the HPV test is privately paid.
The HPV DNA test, used to detect HPV infections and identify the specific type, is crucial for early diagnosis of cervical cancer and genital wart risk. Our clinic uses a broad panel test through a contracted private laboratory that screens for over 200 HPV types.
During the application process, a free preliminary evaluation is conducted by the doctor. The procedure is performed under sterile conditions and is painless. While some clinics take a month or more to deliver results, we provide results within an average of 7–10 days. If the result is positive, treatment begins promptly, and wart removal can even be performed on the same day if needed.
For 2025, the cost of the HPV test is 8,000 TL. This includes comprehensive lab analysis and physician evaluation. Our clinic's approach ensures fast and reliable results, and in positive cases, an effective and personalized treatment plan is developed. With a strong focus on patient privacy and up-to-date medical practices, we are a trusted center for HPV testing and treatment.
