Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment

Cervical cancer is one of the cancer types that can be detected at an early stage and prevented through regular screening programs. The most important risk factor is infection with high-risk HPV (Human Papillomavirus). Therefore, cervical cancer screening is performed through regular check-ups that include Pap smear and HPV testing. Thanks to screening tests, cellular changes that do not yet cause symptoms can be detected at an early stage.

Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment

An abnormal result in screening tests does not necessarily mean cancer. In such cases, advanced evaluation methods such as colposcopy are used to examine the cervix in detail, and a biopsy may be taken if necessary. The goal is to identify precancerous lesions before cancer develops and to provide timely treatment. Early diagnosis increases treatment success and allows for intervention with simpler methods.

Cervical Cancer Treatment

Cervical cancer treatment is planned according to the stage of the disease and the general health condition of the patient. In cases detected at an early stage, complete cure can be achieved with local surgical procedures, while in more advanced stages, surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy may be used together. The treatment process should always be individually planned by an experienced gynecology and obstetrics specialist.

Cervical Cancer Treatment

Mortality rates related to cervical cancer have significantly decreased in women who undergo regular screening. Therefore, even in the absence of any symptoms, regular gynecological examinations, Pap smear tests, and HPV screening should not be neglected. With early diagnosis and the correct treatment approach, cervical cancer can largely be prevented and successfully treated.

What Is Colposcopy and Why Is It Performed?

Colposcopy is a diagnostic evaluation method that allows detailed examination of the cervix, vagina, and vulva using a special magnifying device called a colposcope. It is usually performed when abnormal results are detected in Pap smear or HPV tests. Through colposcopy, suspicious areas on the cervix can be magnified and carefully evaluated, and targeted biopsies can be taken from necessary areas.

What Is Colposcopy and Why Is It Performed?

The colposcopy procedure is performed during a gynecological examination and usually takes only a few minutes. Pain is not expected during the procedure; however, if a biopsy is taken, a short-term mild cramping or pressure sensation may be felt. It does not require anesthesia, and patients can quickly return to their daily activities afterward. Colposcopy is a highly reliable and guiding method for the early diagnosis of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions.

frequently asked questions

The HPV test is a laboratory test performed using a sample taken from the cervix. It detects the presence of high-risk types of the HPV virus (such as types 16 and 18). The goal is to identify the risk of cervical cancer early.
The test is done during a gynecological examination by taking a sample from the cervix using a special brush. It is painless and usually completed within a few minutes. It is recommended periodically for all sexually active women.
A positive result means that your body carries HPV types that can lead to cancer. In this case, your doctor may recommend additional tests (such as a Pap smear or colposcopy) and create a treatment plan if necessary.
HPV testing is generally recommended for women over the age of 30, often alongside a Pap smear (co-testing). However, in women with risk factors or abnormal smear results, it may be done at a younger age.
There is no standard HPV screening test for men, but if there are suspicious warts, lesions, or if a partner tests positive, special sample-based HPV testing can be done. 📌 Our clinic also offers appropriate testing and treatment options for male patients.
